Avoid Potential Pitfalls with Product Reviews

What is the biggest pitfall with product review opportunities?

Product reviews can be a popular option for advertisers, yet there are drawbacks to offering product alone without a placement fee. What happens when the product is mailed, but a few weeks later when the advertiser follows up with them, the influencer says they never received it?

This could put the advertiser in a potentially difficult situation. How do they resolve the issue in a manner that is fair to the influencer (because maybe they really didn’t receive the product) as well as themselves (because what if the influencer did receive it and now has no motivation to complete the work?) The good news is, there are steps you can take to evaluate the situation and arrive at a solution that is satisfactory to both parties.

What are the first steps I should take?

First, if you find yourself in this situation, we advise you to contact Fresh Press Media. This will help us resolve the situation as early as possible. Then, be sure to contact the influencer and let them know you plan to file a claim with the delivery service to locate the missing package. You can also recommend they check with neighbors in case it was delivered to a wrong address, and contact their local hub or post office to report it. An influencer who is enthusiastic about partnering with you should be happy to help take steps to track it down.

How can I prevent the situation from occurring in the first place?

Additionally, below are some preventative measures you can take before posting your opportunity or sending out the package:

  • Add a moderate placement fee along with any product giveaway opportunities. Since the influencer cannot cash out until the gig is submitted and approved, this adds accountability to help ensure the work is completed in a timely manner.

  • Send any packages via certified mail or require a signature for delivery.

  • Be sure to retrieve a tracking number and provide it to both the influencer as well as Fresh Press Media (support@freshpress.media) upon shipment.

  • Add insurance if your product is a high-value item.

Anything else I should be aware of?

Advertisers may hesitate to take action because they want to preserve their reputation. They may worry about causing distress or enabling an influential blogger to post a negative review about their brand. However, this highlights a benefit of working with Fresh Press Media. We are in a better position to address the situation or penalize the influencer (anyone caught doing this is immediately removed from the Marketplace) without creating friction between your brand and the influencer community.

Our goal is to help you protect yourself and to ensure a pleasant experience for both parties. Have you ever experienced this situation? If so, how did you and the influencer work together to resolve it? Please comment below and let us know if you have any more tips.
