1. What is my time worth?
Know the value of your time. Constructing a well written, engaging blog post is time-consuming. Adding in the extra requirements of a sponsored post can increase that timeframe even more. Based on the answer to this question you can determine whether a campaign pays you enough for the number of tasks you need to do to complete it.
2. Does their brand and message align with mine?
When money starts to talk, it can be tempting to force a fit. Take a close look at whether or not a company’s brand or message is in line with your vision and goals. Are you currently using the products they offer? Have you worked together before? Do they have a good reputation? Consider these variables as you make your decision.
3. Are the campaign results & requirements attainable?
Take a look at all of the campaign requirements. What does the content need to contain? Can you meet the deadline given? How will they be measuring the success of the campaign? Are their expectations realistic? Both sides of an opportunity should be clear on the answers to these questions.
4. Am I willing to negotiate?
Perhaps the offer doesn’t include every aspect of a perfect campaign. What is the minimum you are you willing to accept? Perhaps a slightly lower rate, accompanied by an affiliate link? Determine how you want to negotiate, if at all.
You will not be given an offer every time you bid on a paid opportunity. In turn, you don’t have to accept every offer that comes your way. Determine your values prior to engaging with advertisers so you can stay true to your own brand and business.
